My Promise

ON the one hand, I pledge to, as accurately as possible, present information that will help people brew and enjoy beer. ON the other hand, I will also flagrantly distort facts about things just to entertain myself. Please take it with a grain of salt. Let's learn about and enjoy craft beer with a light heart (and a nice head).

Driller miller

I'm ready to grill
I mean drill
I mean grind
I mean mill

You've all read the famous Dr. Seuss story about using a drill to grind your grains for home brewing. Now see the video!

For you's looking to buy, that's a Bosch PSB 600 RE/S. At least in Japan. It's a 600 watt variable speed powerhouse that would probably rather be punching holes in concrete than grinding some measly grist, but that's what I've got it doing, and now that I've figured out how to use it, I think it's starting to like it.

Now, you can adjust the speed, which I guess means adjusting the torque, but as you see in the vid, it really doesn't work when you start out slow. You have to open it up right from the start.

Like nothing at any time since graduating from high school, homebrewing has shown me just how useful math and physics can be, and just how much I wish I'd known that. If only they'd taught homebrewing in high school.
