My Promise

ON the one hand, I pledge to, as accurately as possible, present information that will help people brew and enjoy beer. ON the other hand, I will also flagrantly distort facts about things just to entertain myself. Please take it with a grain of salt. Let's learn about and enjoy craft beer with a light heart (and a nice head).

November is gone; hello December

So I missed posting in November. Oops. That doesn't mean nothing happened. Nope. I brewed up two batches of American hefeweizen, the first of which, added to the crazy huge mongrel IPA I had in the keg, made for a pretty swell Thanksgiving. Well, being with my awesome girlfriend and cool friends, and cooking a turkey and all that was pretty swell too.
Swell people, swell food.

That's really a turkey, promise

My first ever deviled eggs kinda kicked some ass

But to bring you more up to date, here's a picture taken today.
That's Yoko-san enjoying a glass from the second batch of hefe, which I call Wheat- Rye- Yeast, or W.R.Y. I made it reusing the White Labs Kolsch yeast from the first batch of American hefeweizen, as seen in the Thanksgiving shot.

Yoko-san just showed up in my living room today. I don't even know her. That's how good this beer is. People you don't even know just show up to drink it.

I kegged this batch, and boy-oh-boy is it tasty. It's everything the first one was not. You can see Yoko-san loving it there in the photo. It's clean, creamy and zesty at the same time, a bit dry with just a little bitter lemon thing going on, but without the lemon. The rye gives it a nice big mouth feel, but it comes in at a very low alcohol content. A great summer brew in December.

The only thing I'll do next time is knock the bitterness down a few ticks, and maybe introduce some very slight fruit character, like peach or mango.

All right, let's have it!
